- i expected this not to live up to the hype, but loved it! warm. adorable. but not trite. heartfelt. anyone who ever tried their hand (or voice) at open mike night, or took the first step toward getting a record deal should see this. oh, and anyone warm-blooded too. they should maybe get this on netflix, or maybe video on demand? at least.

There he met the classically trained,multi-instrumentalist Marketa Irglova and they started to play together in small venues across the country. After Jan Hrebejk, a Czech director asked them to contribute with a few songs to his film Beauty in Trouble", they ended up leaving the studio with a whole album. The Swell Season was released last April and keeps going strong ever since. Even though Hansard was busy with the completion of the new Frames album, The Cost, he found time to bring the Swell Season live to audiences in Europe and the U.S. Even though initially they were only to write the songs for Once", Carney decided to go with the two musicians in the main roles instead of professional actors. This is how Hansard became the broken-hearted busker on the streets of Dublin and Marketa turned to be the Czech immigrant with shadows in her life and a talent to share with him. "
