- From the page: "MonkeyFilter evolved directly from Metafilter. That's why the two sites look so similar. Metafilter went through a long period of not admitting new members, so some of the Mefi lurkers got together at MoFi just to have somewhere to hang out until registration re-opened. This site began as a haven of sorts for Mefi wannabes to post and comment as they would on Metafilter, if they could only get a membership. Now it's become a community in its own right." - An interesting group of news stories. 10/6/04: I took the Geek test and scored 1445 which is in the Jedi Master range. 1/5/05: "I was intrigued by the calendar marking special "red letter" days - there are a few of them right off the bat here in 2005 . . . Also i hear it's good for predicting eclipses, should you ever get thrown back in time and captured by angry natives."

- Originally intended as a home for those waiting for MetaFilter signups to open. Nowadays the Monkey often has better links than MeFi. The policing is looser: duplicate links happen all the time. Atmosphere tends to be friendlier than on MeFi, which can often be a snake pit.
