Feeding your family on $50.00 per week. Wow. This is good to have on hand. I don not think I will stockpile but still some very good ideas.

I think it is a great addition. While not personally applicable, I am also into savings with two cats and a lot of paper in the stock market (Warren Buffett says to be ready to lose 50% but I do not see it). One tip I have is to invest in US backed I bonds through the Department of the Treasury. Remember when you were a kid and got EE bonds I Bonds are bought at full value. ie. $50 bond, you pay $50.00 but have a 5% return rate unlike CDs and the volatile stock market. The rate is based on the Consumer Price Index and as I know my grandmother whom got a 5.8% Social Security raise, to US$900 month, living in a rent controlled apartment costing $500 in NYC. Luckily my mother (her mother-in-law of my father whom died at age 46) can give her US$11,000 a year and I can give her US$3000 a year. Under US$11,000 means you do not have to pay gift taxes. To bad, the State of California, cut off vets whom had retired after Korea and cannot get food stamps as the Governor and actor spent too much money on solar panels.
