why in the hell do they keep publishing this shite....as long as the rest of the universe thinks we're uneducated, ill-mannered, redneck, inbreeds we can keep the outsiders away....let them know about our piece of heaven then we're gonna be like chicago, houston, atlanta, or god forbid, new york, los angeles,  miami and heaven save us from becoming like one of those foreign cities- - -with toooooo many ppl way too close together. i like living in a community where 2 acre lots with a 2400 sq ft home is the norm and only run about $70,000. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THIS SITE SAYS....THEY ARE LYING TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!! believe me, i live in mississippi....we dont' want you here...ummmm, wait .. i mean -- you don't want to live here...yeah, that's it......don't believe morgan freeman when he says mississippi shows less racism than los angeles, i mean just because he lives here doesn't mean he knows what he's talking about and please don't visit his restaurant and night club in the delta---take my word the food stinks and the music is pitiful, you would never have a good time in a place like his---you must BELIEVE THAT WEIRD,DEMOCRAT (or was he a weird republican yankee?) YANKEE FROM SOMEWHERE UP NORTH----NO ONE WANTS TO GO TO MISSISSIPPI--such truer words were never spoken. thank you for  visiting , and please don't feel free to stay, there are enough ppl here already..with love, granny one of my fav little "newer" sayings:  american by birth, southern by the grace of god.  amen, brother ben.........

A State of Grace. We always hear about Mississippi being last. Last in this, last in that. Well, at last, Mississippi is first ... in generosity. And, in 1995, the world took note of Mississippi's generous spirit through a single, unselfish act. Ms. Oseola McCarty of Hattiesburg had made a living washing & ironing for over 75 years. As a child, she was taught to save money by her mother, a single-parent who was a cook and sold candy to make ends meet. Over the years, Oseola - who lived modestly, never even owning a car - accumulated a small fortune. In 1995, she donated $150,000 to The University of Southern Mississippi for an endowed scholarship. It was the single largest gift ever given to USM by an African-American. Having quit school in 6th grade to help take care of her ailing aunt, Oseola wanted desperately "to help somebody's child go to college." The Oseola McCarty Scholarship does just that by giving "priority consideration to those deserving African-American students enrolling at USM who clearly demonstrate a financial need." Prior to her death in 1999, Ms. McCarty received scores of awards and other honors recognizing her generous spirit, including the Presidential Citizens Medal, the nation's second highest civilian award. But all the awards and accolades in the world could never truly match the rich, warm, humble blessing that was Ms. Oseola McCarty. I am proud to say that I live about 45 miles from Hattiesburg where this wonderful lady lived. A beautiful spirit & awe-inspiring human being, she was a hero in the truest sense of the word. She did an utterly & completely selfless thing for the good of someone else.....the most noble thing a person could do.
