noelleRocks rated 5 months ago- Incredible photos on a place I had never heard about - what a shame! Totally fascinating story and now I'm going to go read more on it.

popwireless rated 9 months ago- Where is the left on this invasion? Why is there still no outrage over this?

Badsanta rated 10 months ago- very interesting story and nice blog

Bradley rated 10 months ago- Varosha is militarily-enforced "abandoned neighborhood" in Cyprus that has been a 100% ghost city for 33 years... All inhabitants left on the same day, apparently leaving everything as-it-was... cars in streets, food on tables, etc. I find it extremely fascinating. Amongst a handful of the firsthand accounts of people who have brazenly snuck into this place: A car dealership with 1974 models still on the floor, and a hotel with a full dining room set for a lunch service, still untouched, after 30+ years... Note also in this link, the construction crane still standing in the same place since 1974 (I was in friggin' PRE-SCHOOL!)... Would be amazing to see in person.

shizzy-t rated 27 months ago- From the page: "In 1974 the Turkish military invaded and carved up the island. Greek Cypriots in the north were forced to move south side of the line. Turkish Cypriots from the south were forced to move north. Greek Cypriot citizens in Varosha fled the Turkish invasion in terror. They expected to return to their homes within days. Instead, the Turks seized the empty city and wrapped it in fencing and wire. They forbid anyone from entering it to this day."
