I would do this hack - just for the challenge, and for the hell of it. As for the millionaire companies who market them? After I pay my money, its mine to do with as I please. Unless, of course, they're going to give me a refund of some type after I turn it in with my pics. I don't think so.

good arguments, but you must realize that this won't affect the company or average joe user. Average joe would consider this too complicated to bother. With this or any other digital camera, they need the easy full service that the stores offer. Now, the people that can do a hack like this probably won't. They probably own their camera that has way more image and lighting settings; using a not-so-great resolution camera that has no zoom would be a waste of time.

Joe-Presto: I assume you are joking. right? Who gets "screwed over by using this info"? No one. If anything, the creation of "disposable culture" is ruining the ecology -- and recycling it is fine. the corporate "built in obsolescence" is a strategy for their profits -- but ends up costing consumers more. If you paid for the camera, why SHOULDN'T you use it any way you want? Are you really going to argue that recycling technology punishes humanity by supposedly raising prices? Puleez.
