Choose and listen to the type of music you like. Lots of variety.

What an amazing service these folks are providing. Independent music spanning many genres with an innovative pricing and licensing structure. While there are many great artists in the rock, techno and ambient genres, the real standouts seem to be in classical. Baroque, renaissance, chamber - it's all there. Listen for free directly from your browser. Magnatune-they're not evil.

Excellent selection of music with pricing and licensing that makes sense.

Listen to over 500 hand-picked complete albums. If you like what you hear, download an album for as little as $5 (you pick the price), or buy a real CD, or license our music for commercial use. You'll get MP3s & WAVs, and no copy protection (DRM), ever.thanks for that write upMbMc

Wow, great! Finally, a refreshing change from the normal money-grabbing, sometimes scheming (Sony BMG :) ) record labels! :)

Magnatune, the open/free commercial record label that uses free, Creative Commons licensed music to sell commercial licenses. The founder explains Magnatune's approach at length here. Briefly, "Magnatune is focused on supporting musicians in musical genres marginalised by the record industry. To this end, Magnatune offers 50/50 deals, splitting gross profits (i.e. total income received from sales) between the musician and the label."

Great site, great philosophy. Goes totally against the whole iTunes system, DRMs, blood thirsty RIAA and what not. Respected community, income stream and promotion for musicians, available music for content creators. Many sites exist for licensing music. check out pumpaudio.com, youlicense.com, attacktrax.com, estockmusic.com
