Good Effort to bring women At Par with men......

From the page: As a human rights organization, MADRE does much more than document and condemn abuses. We work with women who are affected by violations to help them win justice and, ultimately, change the conditions that give rise to human rights abuses. And we challenge US policies that undermine human rights.

From the page: ""Between peoples, borders shouldn't exist, especially when what we are looking for is food for everyone, a decent place to live, medicine and education for our children, and a guarantee of a future with life and with respect. It is in this context that we understand the relation between MADRE and our sisters as a common struggle for a common tomorrow, without tears and without pain. - Rigoberta Menchú"

I will come back and peruse this site. I am for rights for all people regardless of gender, race, religion, blah blah - you have to start somewhere and have some form of focus if you are taking direct action so a focus on women and families seems as reasonable as any other focus :)

MADRE is a human rights organization that works in partnership with community-based women's groups worldwide. Their programs reflect a human-rights-based and people-centered approach to achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals, which aim to:
  • Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  • Achieve universal primary education
  • Promote gender equality and empower women;
  • Reduce child mortality
  • Improve maternal health
  • Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
  • Ensure environmental sustainability
  • Develop a global partnership for development
