officially my favorite random line: It was a combination of god and chess pieces. I like this concept, from prose to poetry via visual arts.

Creative and fun, but you sure hate to destroy a book to do it - however, if these were dumpster diving finds then "all bets are off" people! Gives new meaning to going "green."

umm... what the hell is this? (also, to all those people complaining about destroying books, wtf is wrong with you? Books aren't sacred objects of divine art. They're books. People throw them out all the time, or lose them, or mistreat them. Just for you all, I'm going to find a book and punch it in the spine.)

This is a very creative idea. I don't think I'd be able to do something like this with a book though, I wonder if anyone has tried the same with magazines?

First, for those who commented that they do not think this is art or that they believe this is destructive of books let me say this. Please read and familiarize yourself with Tristan Tzara's and Hans Arp's Dada Manifesto - as well as Dada art and collagist art of the early 20th century before you start making pronuncements about what is and isn't art. Now this particular collection of altered books art reminds me of my first encounter with the visual art and literary art form of altered books. In either 1975 or 1977 the art museum in Basel, Switzerland had an exhiibit of one artist who took one book that he happened to find somewhere (used bookstore?). He altered many pages of the book thereby creating an entirely new narrative - and with new characters, I believe. For years I had the poster of the exhibit hanging up framed in my Southern California bedroom. Its probably in the garage now along with the book about the exhibit. Hmmm...I should dig them out on my next visit home...

This is actually kind of neat.
