I like livejournal because of the emphasis on a selected audience of friends rather than on 'published' material. you don' have to pretend that you are writing to more than certain people you know, which is far different from a very public blog made using, for instance, wordpress. and whatever people might say about it, I've had some truly amazing and inspiring discussions over livejournal.
