lkeruj rated 17 months ago- very insightful and something we should learn from so that we do not repeat it.
Amyss rated 19 months ago- From my son Nick, an article about how Hitler came to power....startling coincidences linking him to Bush (my smart little guy!)

- Interesting article. I find both the liberals and the conservatives resort to using hitler or Nazis as insults when they want to smear the reputation of someone they dislike.
dgquintas rated 26 months ago- But h"w many people know how Hitler actually became a dictator? My bet is, very few. I'd also bet that more than a few people would be surprised at how he pulled it off, especially given that after World War I Germany had become a democratic republic."
sogart rated 26 months ago- history repeats itself ... as a farce
aktarian rated 18 months ago- Interesting read. And while certain similarities between Hitler and Bush exists (as the article implies but doesn't directly state) they are just that, similarities. Not parallels. Are emergency powers compared with Patriot Act? If so it's a lousy comparison. Are special courts and protective custody compared to Gitmo?
Also all US elections since 2001 were fair, contested and candidates had same chances as prior to 2001. In 2006 Democrats won in both houses for heaven's sake. Can anybody imagine communists or social democrats winning german elections after 1993?
jadedconformist rated 25 months ago- This paragraph really hit home:
"Why would Hitler and his associates turn a blind eye to an impending terrorist attack on their national congressional building or actually assist with such a horrific deed? Because they knew what government officials have known throughout history %u2014 that during extreme national emergencies, people are most scared and thus much more willing to surrender their liberties in return for security and that's exactly what happened during the Reichstag terrorist crisis."
cindra24 rated 18 months ago- The similarities between Hitler and Bush are unsettling. Add in the fact that Hitler was a huge christian and it gets way more freaky in coincidences.

Because they knew what government officials have known throughout history -- that during extreme national emergencies, people are most scared and thus much more willing to surrender their liberties in return for "security." And that's exactly what happened during the Reichstag terrorist crisis."
" For their part, the German people quickly accepted the new order of things. Keep in mind that the average non-Jewish German was pretty much unaffected by the new laws and decrees. As long as a German citizen kept his head down, worked hard, took care of his family, sent his children to the public schools and the Hitler Youth organization, and, most important, didn't involve himself in political dissent against the government, a visit by the Gestapo was very unlikely."
Sound familiar, Americans? Now I'm not saying the Bush regime is going to lead to concentration camps, but it is obvious we are repeating some of the same mistakes, to a certain degree, that made Hitler possible. We have not learned our history.
Loofah rated 18 months ago- every american should read this before the next election heh
