So, I saw the handwriting at the bottom of the check and thought it looked familiar. Then it dawned on me that it looked like the lettering from XKCD. So I looked up the name on the check and sure enough - it's the author of XKCD. I missed my calling. I should have been a forgery detective.

I thought e^ix = cosx + isinx, so you get 0.002 + cos(pi) + i*sin(pi) + the sum from 1 to infinity of 1/(2^n) equals 0.002 + -1 + i*0 + 1 = 0.002. sin(pi) = 0, cos(pi) = 1, lim n->infinity 1/2^n = 1. $0.002 is less than a cent. I could actually see Randall do this. :P The image, however, doesn't use e^(i*pi); it uses e^(2*pi*e).
