    I did this with my samsung laptop, it had a convenient cable going from the motherboard to the usb port on the case; what I did was cut that and place a small usb hub on the motherboard side, then connect one of the hub ports to the case usb port. It ended up working fine and was easily reversible. Provided you don't short the motherboard when you snap the two pieces of the case back together (I'd apparently crushed a usb wire in one of the plastic screw holes). Oh well live and learn.

    I've seen hacks like this done on an Eee. They have an unused internal USB header which makes it easy. Redirecting the USB port to an internal hub would be a little more difficult since you'd probably have to snip the port from the board first.
