Seems a bit far fetched, but still an interesting read.

Even if Kurzweil is overly optimistic the trend of exponential growth indicates that the difference between optimistic and conservative estimates would only be around 15 to 20 years. The main point to be taken away from this piece is that change is happening faster than most tend to realize. We are headed toward a society in the coming decades that none of us alive today even have the scope to comprehend.

This point is good,I take his in a way, xguse rated 5 weeks ago Kurzweil is a SMART guy that has let his need for immortality cloud his thoughts. I am all for human/machine interfaces, but the bit about immortality is sloppy thinking. I dont think he mentions that here, but ultimately that is what motivates the singularity writings. The exponential growth charts that he uses (or at least used to use) in his book have been shown to be GREATLY optimistic at BEST and down right dishonest at worst. I like futurism, so I'm giving this a thumbs-up, but anyone who understands what evolution really is will be skeptical of many of the claims made in this essay.
