If you only read one marketing post ever, read this one - 1,000 True Fans by Kevin Kelly: [link]

For artists and creative professionals alike there is a place somewhere in between a concise, popular niche of work, and 1,000 fans. In this article, we learn that 1,000 True Fans can not only be rewarding emotionally, 1,000 True Fans also means that you can make a pretty nice living. Think about it, you can get 1,000 True Fans in three years if you just convince one person a day to be a fan. 1,000 True Fans spending $100 on you every year means about $100,000.

Excellent article on the definition of "true fans." All you need is 1,000 of them and you can make a rather comfortable living.

It's the best writing of 2008, seriously. If you're an artist or in any kind of business, check it out.

Kevin Kelly is really smart. Every artist needs to read the Technium and be aware of the how old assumptions are changing.
