jfloydnv discovered 23 months ago- Kevin Kelly explains: This site features the ways in which people modify and re-create technology. Herein a collection of personal modifications, folk innovations, street customization, ad hoc alterations, wear-patterns, home-made versions and indigenous ingenuity. In short -- stuff as it is actually used, and not how its creators planned on it being used. As William Gibson said, "The street finds its own uses for technology." I welcome suggestions of links, and contributions from others to include in this compendium.

danger359 rated 23 months ago- The street finds its own use for things Thanks to rune for blogging this site! It is surprising how often I have to remind my fellow technologists that a wrench is not necessarily a wrench -- what they are inventing may be used in many different ways -- and that's a good thing. In psychology, the phenomenon of not being able to see the possibilities beyond "wrench" is called functional fixity. But I think most people have a bit of McGyver in them when there is a problem to be solved. This site documents many cases of ingenuity. Fantastic.
