that was a pretty stupid statement brennmesiter, of course you'd have to blame the Corps. for the levees. They're in charge of the levees since 1965! Not the city of New Orleans. They can elect Gandhi for all it matters and he still wouldn't have the power to change the levees. So... more

The blame for that type of levee shown in the picture lies squarely at the feet of the New Orleans Levee District and the Sewage and Water Boards, respectively. Small point but the USACE built and maintained levees, t-bar levees, were not actually breached by Katrina's storm surge.

I was looking at this page, going, "Cool, levees, they're neat to look at and stuff." Then at the bottom it shows New Orleans levees and I realize it's just a stupid political message. I've no problem with the statement that New Orleans' levees need to be fixed. That's very true. But I was hoping for something more interesting on this page then just a political message. Also: What does a Scottish boat transporter have to do with levees, anyway? A system supposed to keep water out of cities doesn't have much to do with a system designed to move ships up to different water levels, does it?
