teslacoil discovered 8 months ago- Tangentially related (because it's Dawkins), but noteworthy that his quote has technical merit (the memory locations is for an Apple ][ ). Yes, it's extreme geekery.

pflammertsma rated 7 months ago- Richard Dawkins: my personal hero! The biggest atheist in the world turns out to also be a nerd. Could one love a character any more than I do?

kroztron rated 8 months ago- The degree of diligence and free time required for this kind of investigative work concerning an author's very random seemingly inconsequential tech reference is staggering, and I hate to say it but that kind of skill and determination would have been put to much better use on something that matters -- not the great mystery of what computer Richard Dawkins used decades ago... impressive nonetheless. Now I have been sucked into it though! Why am I writing this and making you read it!? "In my computer's ROM, location numbers 64489, 64490 and 64491, taken together, contain a particular pattern of contents---1s and 0s which---when interpreted as instructions, result in the computer's little loudspeaker uttering a blip sound. This bit pattern is 10101101 00110000 11000000." --Dawkins "Of course, this piqued my curiosity. Did Dawkins just make that up, or is this really the contents of a specific bit of memory on a specific computer?"

Emmers rated 8 months ago- Oh, Richard Dawkins, you huge nerd, you. I love you, you mad atheist weirdo.

SketchSepahi rated 8 months ago- Proof that Richard Dawkins used to use an Apple computer.

Viperine rated 8 months ago- Who fucking cares if he made it up?

ifsck rated 8 months ago- It's good that Dawkins got this correct, but nothing special.

justmoon rated 8 months ago- It's not that Dawkins never makes a mistake, but it seems he does do his homework.
