There was a story about a ¥3,000 (Japanese Yen) bowl of Ramen. That's the equivalent of $30.70 (USA Dollar) in today's exchange rate! From the page: "One pricey bowl of soup noodles Fujimaki Gekijo,a ramen shop in Meguro Ward, ups the ante on one of Japan's staple fast foods. Chef Shoichi Fujimaki wants to offer a "once in a lifetime experience," and even amid the recession, people are happy to pay ¥3,000 and up for a bowl of high-end noodles. "

The world's major papers are always great reading! As a Japanese-American, I'm extremely interested in cultural issues Gen X/Y face in Japan, as compared to Sansei/Yonsei counterparts in the US. There remain so many contradictions, as Japan transformed so quickly tnto a modern powerhouse, but with values & traditions too strong to disregard. Note: The weeks around August are especially rich times to read because of the powerful relections about that same period in 1945--the nightmare preceding it, and how that's shaped the world & Japan's commitment to peace since.

Excellent news about Japan, in both English and Japanese, so it's an excellent resource for learning the language too. RSS feeds available in both languages.
