[RIGHT: Saint Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland. How come he missed the lemurs? For the true story, see above.] Can we take St. Patrick's Day away from the fake green beer and even more fake American Irish grandmothers, and repatriate it to the fair land where some of us were actually born and, wherever we are, must pause to pay homage to our real, our great, our heroic, our fun-loving mythic and musical homeland. Erin go brath! This is not the greatest website in the world - but it does the job for the day. But yes, it does say 2005 - "a wee bit behind, thanks be to god." Reminds me of the time I met a tourist in a Galway bar and he told me he was really impressed by our laid-back attitude to life. "Tell me," said he, "is there a word in the Irish language similar to the Spanish maņana?" I paused for thought while he busied himself ordering my next Guinness. "Well, yes," quoth I. "We do have a word like maņana. But it doesn't have the same sense of ... urgency!
