I love feeling dumb...especially when it's by self-less people who make the world a better place. Congratulations, Emily Cummins, on a truly brilliant, simple, astoundingly-elegant design -- that you used -- to help improve the lives of millions of people around the world... From the... more

the tech with which we will change the world is this @#$ing simple. Stop allowing the greed and fear sewn by corporate and religious America to lead you to believe that we can not make a safe and bountiful world. Think better than the fools that have lead us into the swamp!!

Student "Invents" Solar-Powered Fridge for Developing Countries some months ago, i posted the article about the young woman who 'invented' this fantastic food saving fridge. this is how the unit works... simple and effective. it's a wonderful example of what can happen when we focus our energies on solving the problem of global warming and scarce fuel sorces. folks everywhere can benefit from and emulate emily cummins example. New materials applied to an old technique. Maybe it's more efficient, I don't know. I learned how to make an evaporative cold box when I was in the cub scouts by using a wood box and wet burlap. Maybe evaporative cooling a new concept to the British.

It's only interesting because the "inventor" is a moderately attractive underage woman. This "technology" likely predates recorded history. The use of high-energy materials like aluminum, steel mesh and modern machine tools to fabricate it make it not so useful for developing countries, however a glazed clay pot inside an unglazed pot with the interstitial area infilled with wet sand is, and has been used in Africa for quite some time and the only cost is time and fire.

repost of something which she didn't invent. Ive seen ones where two large clay pots are put inside each other, with wet sand in the middle
