  • I Am An Atheist: Rights and Responsibilities

A list of responsibilities for Atheists. As an agnostic (who is somewhat leaning toward Atheism), I feel this list applies to Agnostics also with a minor modification to the first responsibility on the list. From the page:"As an atheist you have a number of rights and responsibilities. Isn't part of being a moral atheist that you DON'T need a list from someone else? These rights and responsibilities are to be found from within, not without. Otherwise, what is their meaning?

Hmm.. I don't agree that there are any intrinsic rights or responsibilities invoked in not having a belief in gods. What connection can you draw between not believing in gods and "don't lie about stuff"? None. I am atheist myself and this seems a bit dogmatic to me

Ew. This is too hastily drawn up. It has the air of flippancy that invites more contemplative minds to dismiss it.

11 Although it's as good as impossible to prove God exists, proving the opposite is just as difficult. 12 Believing something is true doesn't necessarily make it the truth, so... only mock those who judge people on basis of their belief. 13 Keep in mind that religious people, as long as they give you freedom to believe what you want, can be friends too. 14 A witch hunt is a witch hunt, who ever starts it. I'm sorry to add these "rules". As agnostic I added Atheist/Agnostic to my stumble-preferences, but so far I only seen a few sites that actually were about Atheism or Agnosticism. Loads of the sites presented seem to have just one purpose, "How to ridicule religion as much as possible". Without proof God doesn't exist, this kind of behavior says more about the person ridiculing as religion.

Just a tad on the inflammatory side near the end, but I agree with the general code of ethics; I don't think enough people realize morals and religion are NOT mutually exclusive.
