TOMTHUMB discovered 13 months ago- From the page: "Will Bush just walk? Will he be able to leave the White House and never account for all of his law breaking and imperial acts? The man thinks he is above the law. Is he? Do we hold our presidents accountable in this country? Are we truly a democracy? Or have we become like any third rate society that bows down to their leaders no matter what they do? Democratic leaders are expressing outrage at President Bush's decision to commute Scooter Libby's decision. But will they do anything about it? No. They'll just have more "outrage." Wow, that ought to show him. I'm tired of beating up on the Democrats. The real culprit here is George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. But they are being enabled by a Congress that refuses to hold them accountable."

JD001 rated 13 months ago- It is interesting that, considering how the Bush Administration brought the U.S. into the war against Iraq, that there has not been more of a desire on behalf of the Legislative Branch of the government, to hold the present administration accountable for this debacle...

But they are being enabled by a Congress that refuses to hold them accountable. Why do you think Bush thought he could do this? Because he knew for a fact there would be absolutely no consequences for him. The Democrats have been screaming about how impeachment is off the table for the last six months (at least). So, what do Bush and Cheney have to worry about? Absolutely nothing." Well, sort of, but not quite. He has a constitutional right to do what he has done. If, as we have seen time and time again, we're happy to let him get away with claiming powers the constitution does not give him, then why would he even think twice about this?

hamish40 rated 13 months ago- Powerful and important issues are raised here. In order for the U.S. to begin the process of healing, this administration must be made accountable for its crimes, just like any other criminal.

bgamall rated 13 months ago- Scooter Libby had a lot on the President and Vice President. He was inner circle, so he was a member of PNAC, and he wanted a new Pearl Harbor like all PNAC members did. Libby wanted to invade Iraq to steal oil, and that was what PNAC members wanted. He could reveal George Bush's real reason for going into Iraq. He could reveal Bush's likely involvement in allowing 9/11. It was a certainty that he would be let off. It shows that this administration is without any credibility about anything.

Natural rated 13 months ago- From the page: "George W. Bush's presidency has been characterized by three words - Above the Law. Is he? If he is right and he never suffers the consequences of his actions, what does that say about our system? What does that say about us?" --The author doesn't consider the fact that his whole country operates above the law internationally. Things such as Habeas Corpus, the Geneva Conventions, the World Court, the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and the United Nations mean nothing to the United States. How fitting that Americans should now regard their own chosen government with the same sort of distaste that the whole rest of the world has toward the United States.

If Bush & Cheny don't get impeached then we can throw the i word out the window because impeachment has never been more justified!
This country will not start to heal until these people are held responsible for their crimes.- From the page: "Will Bush just walk? Will he be able to leave the White House and never account for all of his law breaking and imperial acts? The man thinks he is above the law. Is he?

Marcus-Lycus rated 13 months ago- Bush is suffering the consequences. Trouble is it isn't as gratifying as it used to be. To oppose such a man requires more sacrifice than most of us are willing to put up with. We have reached the nexus of civil disobedience yet come up short. We're too wrapped up in American Idol, iPhones, and the "American Dream" to ever meaningfully question authority any longer. To proceed any further requires, loss of property, imprisonment, and possibly loss of life. To do so puts one in harms way and we've become convinced that one cannot put a price on safety or security (except we have). Anyone willing to become the next "enemy combatant"? Yea, I didn't think so... me neither.

So, what do Bush and Cheney have to worry about? Absolutely nothing. They have carte blanche to break any laws, violate any rules and act like they are above the law. Because the opposition party has promised them they are. I don't love the idea of an impeachment process either. It sounds so damn distasteful. I wish there were another way. But I don't see it. What can you do with a president who shows disdain for the rule of law and is not checked by popular opinion at all? Can you let him just keep breaking the law or does there come a time where you are forced to act?"
