A fascinating movie exploring not just the history of the font, but the love/hate relationship designers have with it.

It might owe to the fact that I dig typesetting and the printed word - but I love this flick...but I hate Helvetica...and Times New Roman. The film does stretch it, however there is truth to how prevalent fonts are in our culture and the visual impact they have on people as individuals and as a society. Heck, Kate Moss has her own font. And just for show-and-tell: my heros are House Industries and Jonathan Barnbrook

A film about a font: A tribute to capitalism! Not a haiku.

!!!!!!!!A C H T U N G!!!!!!! Die letzte Vorführung auf deutschem Boden findet am 04. September 2007 im Museum Ludwig in Köln statt! Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which is celebrating its 50th birthday this year) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. Helvetica is currently screening at film festivals, museums, design conferences, and cinemas worldwide, followed by the DVD release in October.
