My favorite excerpts from the book: The Savage shook his head. "It all seems to me quite horrible." [Resident World Controller for Western Europe] "Of course it does. Actual happiness always looks pretty squalid in comparison with the over-compensations for misery. And, of course, stability isn't nearly so spectacular as instability. And being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesqueness of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal overthrow by passion or doubt. Happiness is never grand." ... [The Savage] "Haven't they used his pleasant vices as an instrument to degrade him?" [Resident World Controller for Western Europe] "Degrade him from what position? As a happy, hard-working, goods-consuming citizen he's perfect. Of course, if you choose some other standard than ours, then perhaps you might say he was degraded... [The Savage] "But value dwells not in particular will," said the Savage. "It holds his estimate and dignity as well wherein 'tis precious of itself as in the prizer." - Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

Science-fiction. You are the bane of my life. I'm sure many people will enjoy it, but now I need to read LotR to purge my mind.
