gypsybill discovered 7 months ago- Join or Die, an HBO movie about John Adams. Looks like it could be pretty good.

shepherdess56 rated 5 weeks ago- In celebration of July 4th - Watch a few segments of HBO's "John Adams"...understand what July 4th is all about..."lest we forget!" Excellent mini-series...recently watched with my husband...the founding was not as pretty as we would have liked to have thought. The mini-series is as seen through eyes and personality of one of the less colorful characters of US history and a long forgotten second President. After watching this mini-series...we realized we owe much to this man, who got little or no recognition for his efforts.

thismadman rated 3 months ago- Based on the book John Adams by David Mccullough. A well done production starring Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney. Credit is due for the supporting cast as well among them: Stephen Dillane who plays a compelling portrayal of an intriguing and wise Thomas Jefferson. Rufus Sewell - also gives a strong portrayal of a self-absorbed, self-interest Alexander Hamilton. Tom Wilkinson was the British General in The Patriot starring Mel Gibson. In John Adams, he now plays the eccentric yet diplomatic American Benjamin Franklin. Interesting that theres three UK actors (Wilkinson, Dillane and Sewell) portraying these historical American figures. It covers the 1st 50 years of the history of the USA as an independent nation and the realities of the time period. Definitely worth viewing for those interested in USA History. The Patriot is also worth watching if you like this series. Although The Patriot is fiction loosely based on historical events in the same time period as John Adams. John Adams was real and so was this story. I also highly recommend the book 1776 by David Mccullough. I hope there will be more productions covering the American Revolution period particularly the "Founding Fathers" who helped forge the "New World" without heredity, titles, tyrants, kings etc...a country run by the people for the people...

a300mech rated 4 months ago- An awesome show. It's actually reason enough to watch TV. And it's from HBO, which is bizarre considering the anti-American drivel they usually produce. McCullough's book has been moved up several spaces on my endless reading list.

MrsA rated 5 months ago- If you have HBO, I sincerely hope you get a chance to watch this mini-series about my cousin. Yes, MY COUSIN. I am more closely related to Sam Adams, but I am also related to John and John Q. AND I AM PROUD OF THE FACT!

- I heard a review on PBS today which gives the series high marks. I saw the one on PBS which chronicled the relationship between John and Abigail Adams. These people were soul mates! The letters Adams wrote between Abigail, Jefferson, et al are breathtaking, moving and inspiring! If only our leaders could write with the power, sincerity and eloquence that these people could. Review from my mentor Judson: "Fantastic! and followed McCullough's book in detail. I got out my copy of the Declaration. The program made me very emotional. I watched with tears in my eyes because Adams even more than Jefferson was the person who had all the elements of democracy and a republic in his head and over a period of about 15 years that stuff in his head was created in reality, namely the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the US Constitution. Both are now still in effect...in a manner of speaking." jd

norsehorse rated 5 months ago- Have been looking forward to watching this mini-series since I first saw the initial mentions and promos about it. The Website offerings feed my appetite even more so. Cannot wait until it begins showing on HBO.
