Adding more salt to the injury, Mr. Vonnegut, shows up as a real a ghostwriter and points me to this related site. Ugh.

From the page: "I myself grew up in Indianapolis, where common speech sounds like a band saw cutting galvanized tin, and employs a vocabulary as unornamental as a monkey wrench."

This is the article I remember reading when I was a kid in high school. I hope it has influenced my own writing in a positive way.

Write with style, from the page: "No matter what your first language, you should treasure it all your life. If it happens not to be standard English, and if it shows itself when you write standard English, the result is usually delightful, like a very pretty girl with one eye that is green and one that is blue." To me, not being a native English speaker, but constantly writing in English, this was like music to my ears.

Kurt Vonnegut's take on style in writing. Interesting, 1982.
