BURMA EXPORTS RICE AS CYCLONE VICTIMS STARVE With rice prices hitting a record high, the Burmese regime continues to export huge consignments of rice. Despite the fact that survivors of the devastating cyclone are starving. This is due to rice being a valuable source of foreign revenue for the junta. Meanwhile, foreign aid efforts are being blocked and the death toll is sure to rise even further, due to the complacency and complete disregard by the Burmese government, of the continued suffering of their own people. Totally unacceptable. ybfree (a fellow stumbler) urged us to apply pressure on the Burmese Embassy's in our respective nations. They need to stop this nonsense. Now!

While some people die starving (collateral damage!?, as i think this is what we're all gonna hear), others get rich exporting Burma rice.

I think we should send in the marines, just a few snipers for the junta is all we need. Or we could send some of our mercenaries from Iraq! The poor have to pay the price of ignorance in Burma not just the good ol' US of A.

I wish someone would remove the current government from power.

BURMA EXPORTS RICE AS CYCLONE VICTIMS STARVE. Thanks 'nadinejoy'. Children standing amid the debris of their village, which was destroyed by the cyclone, near the township of Kunyangon, Burma. Photograph: Adam Dean/EPA Burma is still exporting rice even as it tries to curb the influx of international donations of food bound for the starving survivors of the cyclone that killed up to 116,000 people.

Contact the Burmese Embassy in your nation and put the pressure on them to stop this nonsense: http://www.embassyworld.com/embassy/Burma/Burma2.html

Can't let a little inconvenience - like a homeless and starving population - get in the way of making money. Apparently, it wouldn't be Right. From the page: "Burma is still exporting rice even as it tries to curb the influx of international donations of food bound for the starving survivors of the cyclone that killed up to 116,000 people. Sacks of rice destined for Bangladesh were being loaded on to a ship at the Thilawa container port at the mouth of the Yangon River at the end of last week, even though Burma's 'rice bowl' region was devastated by the deadly storm a week ago. The Burmese regime, which has a monopoly on the country's rice exports, said it planned to meet all its contractual commitments."
