Someday that cat will eat that bird, it's just nature and you people are retards for getting all warm and cuddly in your pants over this.
True story: I raised a kitten alongside my cockatiel Nicolo. Nicolo could roam and fly freely without fear of the cat hunting it down. Even once she was full grown, the cat never made a move on the bird. Nic would tug on the cat's fur and the cat wouldn't budge - it didn't give a shit. And yet this same cat was a vicious killing machine when we let it outside. It was quite common to find mouse heads strewn along the sidewalk.
So, my point is, nurture sometimes (perhaps often) trumps nature.
