rssn rated 3 months ago- This article is pretty much wrong about everything. Why would the War in Iraq "mean the end of their [americas] empire." What about Vietnam? That was much worse than the war in Iraq, and somehow that wasn't entirely crippling. Not to mention that the United States could just leave Iraq, but it would be very much morally wrong (come in, fuck things up, leave). And the United States is no more dependent on the outside world than any other country. Today the world economy is much more important than any individual country's, a complete collapse of any major economy would bring the rest of the world down with it. They author also points out that most of the Middle East hates the United States because the United States supports Israel. So what does the author suggest, the US stop supporting a long time ally to become more popular? Of course that's why they hate us, but should the US drop a long time ally and start sucking up to the rest of the middle east? Would it be better to be hated (although I doubt they would hate) by Israel because they would act like any modern country does and disagree politically and not with the use of terror, threats and violence. France and the United States weren't very friendly for a while, but they didn't start killing each other. So should the United States leave a civilized ally for a violent brute for it's out safety? I don't think so.
