JD's going pro! A personal finance blogger tells of his plan - and not just some pie-in-the-sky plan but an honest-to-goodness workable in-action plan to quit his day job and live the digital life.

Get Rich Slowly always has a way of putting the "get rich" hype through a realistic filter and still be inspiring.

JD manages to hit what I want dream to do in future - Work at home. This is really an inspiring article to read.

This is an inspiring article, although a bit discouraging considering he only makes $5K/month on 35,000 subscribers. I would think that he could generate at least 3x that amount if he were to expand beyond Google Adsense and partake in some CPM programs as well. It's definitely great though that he was able to grow something he was passionate about into a viable full-time business. Kudos to the author for a job well done!

Making transition to full-time problogging is a difficult decision with lots of factors to consider.

I can't believe I've been reading since the metafilter book review comments and now he's a pro! Of course it's a little easier when you have family willing to phase you out gradually and allow you one years notice ... but still brave.

From the page: "Something amazing has happened in the past eighteen months. While Iâ€ve been learning about personal finance â€" and sharing my knowledge with you â€" Get Rich Slowly has grown from a small site with a couple hundred readers into a real-life business. GRS currently has 35,000 subscribers and generates $5,000 in monthly revenue. It also takes most of my time. This is a blessing and a curse."
