A good rant about 80s Zelda artwork vs. the Hyrule of today's games.

I'd appreciate this if the author wasn't such a whiny little bitch with 0 imagination. I'm giving a thumbs up to the Live Journal post with the pictures, instead.

Adventures in bitching:
This is the kind of thing they would print to convince you the little blobs of sprites on your screen were actually fierce monsters and the brave heroes that slay them.
Funny, I thought that's what imagination was for!
Giving the poor kid some personality and a fucking voice (text is fine) would at the very least eliminate the necessity for the annoyingly chatty fairies and sidekicks that have plagued every modern Zelda game.
The point of not having Link talk is so that the player can actually feel like he/she IS Link while playing. For this same reason, he does not have a very strong personality, although he does have one.
Also, I like some of the sidekicks. For example, my ability to imitate Navi's "Hey! Listen!" perfectly has provided a useful tool for annoying friends.

I like the pics but Zelda has been an awesome series which I loved and now my kids do as well. Nothing was "lost"

I'm neutral on this age just because I've played every Zelda game that ever was, and I'm not disappointed that the Zelda series has turned out like it has. While this art was kind of cool, I like the Hyrule I'm playing in now.

I take serious issue with this article suggesting that the Zelda games would've been better if they'd stuck to the feel of this 80s art. I love Zelda because it can be cute and silly, while still making me feel like a damn hero. Who the hell wants this cliche D&D shit? I'm grateful that they decided to take things in another direction. The pictures were interesting to see, at least.
