    Active and intelligent social networking site that actually rewards its participants via Paypal. How cool is that!

    I can't believe I haven't reviewed Gather.com yet. It is an absolutely fantastic online community that is actually intelligent. It's sponsored by American Public Media, which powers various Minnesota Public Radio programs. According to this ClickZ article, "Gather.com has acquired about 30,000 registered users, 73 percent of whom have a college education, 72 percent of whom are between 30 and 60 years of age, and 80 percent of whom have a household income above $50,000." Plus, Gather writers accumulate points which can be translated into cash rewards, an additional incentive for Gather members to produce great content. Some Gather users are actually famous writers. My only complaint is that the site uses a lot of JavaScript and can be slow. I contacted customer service about it though, and a person replied back (within a day!) and assured me that they're aiming for a simplified and redesigned site within a few months.EDIT JULY 06: Hoooray, they did change the site design completely, and I like it!
