I bet this (rather long) list of freeware is perfect for the person that wrote this list. Given a bit of time I could come up with a similar list (probably a similar length too) of software that I consider essential.And it would include about a quarter (at most) of the software on this list. This is where the problem lies with lists like these really.Subjectivity, lack of alternatives and poorly explained reasoning. I personally use Gizmo's Freeware Reviews ( http://www.techsupportalert.com/ ) The site has an individual "editor" and comments section for each category, which largely solves these problems.However, Media Player Classic + a good codec pack is a good (superior imo) alternative to VLC for all but portable use :P

A font viewer on place 1? Also, for many of the programs listed, there are better alternatives.
