skylick discovered 8 months ago- "The Freethinker" The Voice of Atheism Since 1881. The Romans had their Saturnalia which was a period of gifting and party time. The Pope decided to make this period Christian by making it the birthday of the baby god.

Early Christians simply did not celebrate Christmas, and therefore neither do all people nowadays who refer to themselves as Christians. There are true Christians and there are false Christians. Interestingly, so often when a person who refers to him or herself as a 'freethinker' writes about Christians and lumps them all together, it is full of negative energy and venomous words. Just like the words and deeds of false Christians, toward others. Also, why is it that then, when people who refer to themselves as pagans and people of nature and light, have a comment to add to what the 'freethinkers' say, many of them jump onto the negative energy bandwagon like a lynchmob? I prefer to read works by TRUE freethinkers.

JIR rated 7 months ago- From the page: "The good part of Christmas is not always Christian, it is generally Pagan; that is to say, human and natural. Christianity did not come with tidings of great joy, but with a message of eternal grief. It came with the threat of everlasting torture on its lips. It meant war on earth and perdition thereafter ... as a torch-bearer, as a bringer of joy, it has been a failure. It has given infinite consequences to the acts of finite beings, crushing the soul with a responsibility too great for mortals to bear. It has filled the future with fear and flame ..." Something to think of again.

mysticalspork rated 7 months ago- Christmas is a Christian holiday. Hence the "Christ" in Christmas. Is there really any question about this? Yeah, the date and a lot of the traditions are borrowed from other cultures. Most religions borrow from one another. But it's still Christmas.

sceptic rated 8 months ago- As dumb as a neep and twice as fucking ugly. For the sake of our species I really hope that the genetic line of the Mackies ends with Emily.

Merum rated 8 months ago- Let me get this straight... Xians can denigrate, harass, and otherwise generally attack anybody who they feel doesn't stack up to their view of what is "good and right" but anybody who questions their beliefs is "antagonizing" them and should be shouted down loudly? Do us all a favor and fuck right off, hypocritical xian assholes.
