Isn't this what it is all about, freedom of information...of mind? It runs contrary to all the principles of our (north american anyway) culture. Depriving ones mind of the ability to think is what was fought for in the world war (WW2). The "Evil Empire" of the 1980's to 1990's, Communist China, N. Korea...need it be repeated?

I guess these book take the place of the forbidden apple right... The so call "Great" always do away with things and concepts they can't understand..... I wonder why? Oh!  before I leave I don't recall seeing a Clockwork Orange on the Shit-list that was one ultra-violent book.

"All these people talk so eloquently about getting back to good old-fashioned values. Well, as an old poop I can remember back to when we had those old-fashioned values, and I say let's get back to the good old-fashioned First Amendment of the good old-fashioned Constitution of the United States -- and to hell with the censors! Give me knowledge or give me death!" -- Kurt Vonnegut, author

...books that wont make you any smarter. fyi, one thing to note. anyone who thinks 1984 is pro-communism, should in fact read 1984. One phrase comes to mind "do it to julia", read it and see if its really pro-Utilitarian (like people of recent are claiming).

Interesting to see the reasoning behind some of banning. Just goes to show you how closed the minds of some people are.
