  • Flock Browser - The Social Web Browser

I have been comparing the Flock browser to the other main three browsers on the market and it did quite well. I loaded two browsers at a time one was Flock and either IE7, Firefox or Opera. I then did searches on things that I had not searched for before in order not to give the browsers I use... more

~via ft f l o c k Here are some snips from the great jude's persuasive comments on the browser Flock. "I switched to the Flock browser a few days ago, and strongly recommend giving it a go if you use RSS feeds a lot. Flock, essentially, is Firefox overlaid with features optimised for bloggers and others who do a lot of uploading, commenting and interacting. It is very fast, and (now) compatible with the SU toolbar, FF3 add-ons, Greasemonkey and your special scripts from Forest Hippy. I had looked at this browser in the past but been put off by the fact that I couldn't import my feeds from Google Reader, and it wasn't worth starting again from scratch. That has all been resolved now, and I have set it up with feeds -- SU and hundreds of other blogs and sites -- arranged in folders in the left sidebar. The numbers listed in blue boxes alongside sites let me know what has been added since I last checked. When I click on any of those feeds listed on the left a tab opens in the main screen area, and there I can view the new entries in summary or full form, and with or w/o images (the icons at top right allow you to toggle the display quickly). From that main screen you can save a post for later, mark it off as read, copy it for blogging or of course go to the original page (in this case SU's Ravenbluebird) or the link that is being reviewed. I have found my reading and viewing faster and more pleasurable from Flock as all the info I want seems to be at my fingertips, and updating is very fast. From an RSS point of view it does the job better than Google Reader, which was my previous home while reading on the net." Please visit Jude's page to get the lush context and to savor her rich, robust, all singing all dancing full throttle antipodean judeiness. another one via the great frenchtwist with thanx.

I switched to the Flock browser a few days ago, and strongly recommend giving it a go if you use RSS feeds a lot. Flock bills itself as ideal for social browsing, particularly if you're active on Twitter, Facebook and the like. However I have found it is just as good for compulsive readers like myself, and that I can get to everything I want in one click -- surprising as that sounds. I use it regularly and i found it fantastic. It should have a stumbleupon toolbar integrated!

I'd like to see more add-ons specifically made for Flock.

Modified and repacked Firefox for those who don't wanna go through the hassle of manually installing addons. Geared more towards social networking and blogging.
