It's partly the public school systems' fault, if they had only known that these future police officers were border line retarded......:)

what amuses me is that some of our American Libertarian friends appear oblivious to the militarization of their police forces and make extraordinary claims that the UK (or Europe generally) are the ones living under a Police State! The truth is, we all are, but some are much more advanced down the totalitarian path than others. The US is a world leader!

I'm so glad I live in the UK and we have not gone to extremes to protect our rights to bare arms, so we are less likely to end up in this mess; which of course has been created when something created for the exception becomes the norm: "SWAT teams were designed to deal with very violent individuals who represent a clear and present threat to the public. However, they are now being used to execute warrants on non-violent offenders and even those who have no prior criminal history at all. Turning our neighborhood cops into shock troops will do nothing but erode public confidence in the police and endanger the lives of innocent Americans".

The article has some extreme insinuations in it, but its overall message is important--that SWAT tactics should not be used for routine police work like issuing warrants.

From the page: "In 2006, 92 year old Kathryn Johnston was shot 39 times by an Atlanta Swat team. Johnson was so fearful that she never left her home and would only open her door after friends who placed her groceries on the front porch had left. An erroneous tip from an informant was enough for the Atlanta Police Department to invade her home. Police have since admitted to lying to obtain a search warrant and to planting drugs in her home after killing her. "
