From the page: "China announced this week that production and use of plastic bags in supermarkets and retail shops will be banned beginning June 1. This new law could have a considerably positive environmental impact, given that Chinese citizens "use as many as 3 billion plastic bags a day.""

The law is part of a larger campaign to fight "white pollution" in China, which includes other forms of rampant plastic and styrofoam use as well."

Nice find, it's about time a major country banned plastic bags. Now the U.S.A. needs to do the same and more. Use hemp bags instead.

It's such a sad fact that we only "discovered" the damaging things about plastic now. I suspect who ever designed plastic in the first place may have known about it's terribly long life span. Having China ban the use of plastic bags will surely make a difference but does not prevent the billions and billions of tons of plastic bags probably circulating on our earth already
