sustainablogger discovered 9 months ago- A kite the size of a football field will provide most of the power for a German heavy freight ship set to launch in December.

dio525 rated 9 months ago- don't waste my time

solasaurus rated 9 months ago- This is cool. Enormous kite-sails increasing fuel-efficiency of commercial shipping. Very clever.

barrelhead rated 9 months ago- IMHO, neat idea.

arleas rated 9 months ago- So in reality, we're using a giant sail to power a ship, only we're floating that sail way up in the air instead of tying to a mast.
Interesting.- So in reality, we're using a giant sail to power a ship, only we're floating that sail way up in the air instead of tying to a mast.

- almost like...sails

highroadfarm rated 9 months ago- "Football field-sized kite powers latest heavy freight ship" Now thats a good one!

demonveen rated 9 months ago- Of course they could do a lot more by just leaving the windmills in Denmark and building a nuke in Texas. I can't help but notice the weasel words in the press release -- I suspect that if this were actually a viable technology we would have gone from wind to wind hybrids back in the day instead of converting over to gas-powered ships. It's hard to tell what is actually viable in such a hype ridden industry.
