- A lot of people forget about the Spanish Civil War, especially us non-Europeans. Few realize its true significance in that it was a prelude to the Second World War. Republican forces, backed by a multinational coalition of volunteers, fought against Franco and his Italian and German allies. New tactics and weapons were tested by both sides. Veterans of both the Republican Forces/International Brigades and the Nationalist forces are few and far between now.
