    wasn't even aware that youtube was muting videos. Have to check whether they've done it to any of mine! But now at least I know what to do about it...

    no posting an unedited video or song on youtube is not fair use.

    If your material is actually covered under fair use, then you're in the clear to use this technique. If, on the other hand, you're actually posting illegal content, as the author himself suggested, then your signature is potentially a jail sentence.
