Ecotality Life & Compressed Air Technology (CAT): Green Car Option

letumtutela rated 13 months ago
A wonderful concept, I do believe that it might be energy inefficient, but very friendly for the petrol reserves. I would definitely drive one of these, the car that cost 1.50 to go 60 miles..and cost $3.00 to fill. I do hope these are available in the states soon.

How does one compress air? The amount of energy that is used to prepare the compressed air must be taken into account with the energy consumption of the vehicle. And the model the has the on-board air compressor... I assume that a generator (a noisy 2-cycle?) must be run, using... gasoline? So not 'petrol' free at all, and possibly more energy intensive (maybe, there is no numbers on the energy needed to compress air)

But why?

it's slow (50 kmh tops) and I'm sure it's quite loud. Also, it can't be all that safe (imagine a crash with a tank of compressed air) and so on and so forth. Seems too good to be true for a good reason.

Petrol free because the air is compressed by ECO-MIND-POWER not electricity from polluting power plants.

From the page: "There is another contender in the ring for a totally petrol free ride. A car that runs on compressed air. See www.theaircar.com for details on how it works. Here are some consumer stats:"
