Bertrand Russell said,"The more intense has been the religion of any period and the more profound has been the dogmatic belief, the greater has been the cruelty and the worse has been the state of affairs...I regard religion as a disease born of fear and as a source of untold misery to the human race." This Iranian student represents Rational humanity. He was tortured for wanting freedom and human progress. He was waving a shirt covered with a friends blood. All Governments are bad enough, but when you add religion then you get the worst government possible, and it is called Theocracy.

An Iranian student protester, sentenced to death for appearing on our cover, has escaped to America
NINE years ago, Ahmad Batebi appeared on the cover of The Economist. He was a 21-year-old student, one of thousands who protested against Iran's government that summer. He was photographed holding aloft a T-shirt bespattered with the blood of a fellow protester. Soon afterwards, he was arrested and shown our issue of July 17th 1999. "With this", he was told, "you have signed your death warrant."
Thank you, Matchet
BSAlert rated 3 months ago- Yea, this is propaganda. I'm not saying it's not sad what happened to this guy, but I'm not falling for this stuff and the dubious timing just as the administration is beating war drums for an Iranian invasion. They did the exact same thing during the lead up to the Iraqi invasion with a barrage of stories about how Saddam and his sons raped and tortured women. Don't fall for this junk. It's not like the United States has solved all its human rights problems and now we can walk around judging other countries.
