good statistic...----> From the page: "40% of the 16-25 age-group in the United Kingdom are either atheist or agnostic (Gallup - Telegraph, Nov 1999)."

Why are you even sending your kids to school? They should be homeschooling themselves - that is their work.

I'm not sure I fully agree with this site. But I'd like there to be more secular schools in the UK. My religious ed lessons focused pretty much entirely on the Christian faith. If I ever have kids they aren't going to a faith school. What makes it worse is that as part of OFSTED inspections of schools all state schools have to have some time set aside each day for religious worship. Not many large state schools have that, perhaps through the sheer logistics, but they get marked down in inspections if they don't have it. I think it is important to teach children about peoples beliefs to cultivate understanding but it should be taught from an unbiased perspective.

There might not be a god, but there is certainly religion. To not teach children about religion would be to rob them of the chance to learn about what has formed so many cultures.

Looks like this is back in the Stumbles after a long time away judging by the age of other reviews. It couldn't be more timely.

It's alright, but I notice that it states the God or Gods do not exist. Is not the principal of atheism that we don't believe they exist because they haven't been proved, but we cannot deny the possibility as they have not been disproved? And as for agnostics, well, their opposition to that statement goes without saying. I think that as atheists, we should be far more careful about what we read, lest we descend into a cult ourselves.

I'm sick of hearing other atheists get defensive when accused of not having morals. The fact of the matter is that you are potentially even MORE ethically principled if you are atheist, because your morals are certainly NOT the product of blind faith in some religion or god(s). When your beliefs are based on reason, they are absolute. I hesitate to say that all atheists aren't 'brainwashed', since even society can brainwash anyone - regardless of religious beliefs. Nonetheless, I have much more respect for someone who does the right thing because it is the right thing to do, as opposed to someone whose moral actions can be traced back to a fear of punishment or some desire for reward... Furthermore, I have more respect for someone as an INDIVIDUAL if they are able to interpret situations and existence for themselves - if I ever follow a religion, it will be my own creation, and no one else will be allowed (or even able) to follow it.
