Gerald Durrell was not only a well known author and naturalist, he also firmly believed that zoos had a responsibility to save species from extinction. When he set out, most people didn't believe that animals were disappearing from the planet, and even if they were, why should humans care? Durrell Wildlife's mission is saving species from extinction. Zoos, in general, depress me - but I do admire the work done by Durrell and Jersey Zoo. (And love his books too)

- Thank God for folks like Gerald Durrell 50 years of dedication. I like to think I do my part, as should we all.I am sure the animals are grateful also.
