I've been saying this for years and most everyone doesn't understand why I think MADD is hurting our country. This article from a CA lawyer's website articulates in detail how our liberties are eroding thanks to organizations like MADD, we're supposed to be a nation founded on the rule of law. It's a 5-page article, but please pass the word on and make people aware.

The influence of groups like MADD has promoted legislation that tramples all over the Constitution. These violations of the Constitution have become acceptable because MADD has convinced us that it's for our own safety. How many times have we passed through a random DWI checkpoint and not thought twice about the fact that it's a violation of those rights set forth by our founding fathers? You should not be able to just stop people at random and check them to see if they are drunk. With other crimes probable cause is required, but MADD has convinced Supreme Court judges that it's ok to violate those rights because it's for our security, despite the fact that there's no legal justification for it. In an effort to expand its influence and make more money (how much do you think the president of MADD makes?), MADD changed its name from "Mothers Against Drunk Driving" to "Mothers Against Destructive Decisions." Since then, they've received a lot more support from conservative America, which is very much against drugs but not so strict on drunk driving (for proof of this, visit Texas).

A perfect example how a few zealots with good intentions continue to undermine the freedoms within the US.

This is a must read for any who believe in our way of life and the Constitution. America is under siege like never before. The time is coming for everyone to choose if they will be on the side of justice and good or the side of evil.

The destruction of rights always starts with something that seems "acceptable." Except that it doesn't stop there, it moves on to the "next most acceptable" thing and destroys it as well. And so on until there are no rights left.
