- HIKARU DORODANGO- Polished balls of mud- Made by hand! William Gibson is describing the haunting elegance of hikaru dorodango. His essay in TATE Magazine, "Shiny Balls of Mud: William Gibson Looks at Japanese Pursuits of Perfection" was my first exposure to this trend sweeping through Japan. Hikaru dorodango are balls of mud, molded by hand into perfect spheres, dried, and polished to an unbelievable luster. The process is simple, but the result makes it seem like alchemy.

angelinfreefall rated 10 months ago- I'll be trying this soon

Made from compressed and polished mud.

kiribird2 rated 11 months ago- A traditional pastime among the children of Japan, the exact origin of hikaru dorodango is unknown. Not exactly racing to the claypit but may come in handy for old age.

khammerbeck rated 14 months ago- Hikaru Dorodango Fascinating! ~ I want to try this

eliasen rated 18 months ago- Making shiny mud balls? It's hard to believe that the pictures are balls made of mud. It'd be interesting to try when you're face-down in the mud.
