Use your dna to find out about your ancestors.

I'm sorry, but this is a racket...mitochondrial and Y-chromosome DNA only reveal direct maternal or paternal lineage. That means that if you go back, say, 300 years, you're only testing 1 line out of close to 1,000 family lines within your entire genetic make-up. As you go farther back in time you're actually weeding out the very people that went in to making you who you are. --It's like willingly ignoring 99.9% of your ancestors for the satisfaction of "knowing" .1% them! If knowing your "genetic genealogy" seems worth $300, then by all means, shell out the money. To me it just seems like corporate profiteering on our deepest, most human of all human desires to know who we are and where we came from.

We all came from Eve. Find out where your ancestors came from, their ethnic background, and how they have scattered throughout the world today.

It's for real, there are a couple of different places who'll do the tests, National Geographic is another; https://www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/participate.html It's an attractive idea but I can't help fearing that any protection your most personal of details may have at the moment could be easily overruled leaving you having paid to put your own ass on the DNA database.
