 ferdinandthebull rated 4 months ago- Aside from feeling that this guy is a self-absorbed idiot; the response does don't directly refute the central argument and confront criticisms. Instead he tries to justify "selling out" on some grand scale. This is not a very sound strategy and it is not a valid argument, even if he somehow had justified "selling out".
Beyond that, who the hell tries to justify selling out. Anyone who panders to their audience instead of authentically trying to produce art is "selling out." Plain and simple. Granted there is some oversensitivity to selling out, the opposite end of the spectrum is worse. If I had to guess I'd suppose that this guy is a neocon.

- I haven't read the book; it sounds like Douglas Coupland's version of Party of Five, but with more kinky sex (which never helps to sell books).
Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds like the kind of thing I might have liked back when I was a stupid idealistic college kid who used the word 'sellout' a lot.
Luckily, I'm older now and all I care about is making money and amusing myself, so the author and I would probably get along well if we met. Which we probably won't, because Puffy stopped calling me after I got the abortion.
